The Meteor

The meteor had lit up the sky. It made light where there was darkness. The meteor was said to make a "A" in the clouds. I think it represents Dimmsdales guilt as he stands upon the scaffold. But the Minister thinks it represents angles for Governor Winthrop. Maybe this is saying that now that Dimmsdale is confessing their can be forgivness in this dark place.

  1. Polly - check to see if you have some journals that are "SAVED" and not posted. I ask because you jump from journal 18 to 23.

Dimmesdale thinks it represents his sin. The town people interpret it as meaning "A" for angel for Governor Winthrop. What is Hawthorne doing here? Is he suggesting that a symbol can have more than one meaning? What else could this "A" meteor represent?
